Gilbert Pearson, age 66, passed away on January 3, 2021. Gilbert was born and raised in Muskegon and graduated from Muskegon High School. Gilbert Pearson resided in Grand Rapids, where he worked as a recovery coach. He was preceded in death by Pearl Wilson (mother) and Phillip Pearson (father). He is survived by his daughters Aisha Ward and Erica Pearson; grandchildren Anthony Pearson, Leah Pearson, Rhandi Butler, Janecia Butler, Braun Smelley, and Bra’Niyah Smelley; and his partner, Yvonne Guerrero.
Gilbert loved to give back to his community, which was done through his work as a recovery coach, mentoring and guiding others in efforts to maintain sobriety. He was always seen smiling and could be turned to when anyone needed a laugh. Gilbert is described by family and friends as kind, real, genuine, sincere, bigger than life, funny, caring warmhearted, determined, passionate, gentle, loving, loyal, and courageous. He loved to fish, travel, and try new foods. Gilbert was family oriented and could always be relied upon to ensure the safety and happiness of his daughters and grandchildren. His children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Gilbert’s kind spirit, passion for outdoors, love of healing others, and zest for life will live on through them.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan.
