Jack Gordon Blackport, age 88 of Jenison, Michigan, went to be with his Lord and Savior January 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, faith, and stories that will be retold for generatIons to come. Born in Grand Rapids September 19, 1936 to John and Nellie Blackport, Jack possessed a genius IQ, a caring heart, love for cars, antiquing, and history.
After proudly graduating from Grand Rapids Christian High School, and attending Buffalo College in New York, Jack proudly served his country in the Army from 1956 to 1958. In his time in the military, he served at Fort Niagara and the Pentagon.
Above all, he was a man of faith; he loved the Lord and used his gift of leadership to guide several people to Christ. Serving as a church deacon and Sunday school superintendent at First Jenison CRC, on the Jenison Christian School Board, and Sunday school superintendent at Wyoming Park CRC, he had a hand in guiding young minds in the faith.
He balanced his devotion to Jesus with a deep love for his family. Jack lived most of his life in Jenison, alongside his beloved wife, Betty, who he cherished beyond measure. Jack and Betty were married 68 loving years. Together, they raised a family, five generations deep, with faith, love, and humor.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents John and Nellie Blackport; in-laws Harry and Hazel Van Putten; sister-in-law, Donna Robertson; brother-in-law, David and Gloria Van Putten; brother-in-law, Thomas Van Putten; and son-in-law, David Herrmann. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Susan (Steve) Verburg; grandchildren Sara (Jason) Miller and Brett Herrmann; great-grandchildren Marysa (Adam) Fisher, Samantha Miller, Kyla Herrmann, and Brian Herrmann; and great-great-grandchildren Melody and Maverick Fisher; sister, Sandie (Frank) Leech; brother, Phillip (Wendy) Blackport; many nieces and nephews.
