
Those who knew him will remember him as a man of integrity, self-determination, faith and fai thfuln ess. He relished a challenge and met it with enthusiasm, optimism, passion and courage. He found great strength and encouragement in God’s creation. “I lift up my eyes to the hills. My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Dr. Leon and Helen Wood.
Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth; children, Jeffrey Roxanne Wood, Joel Wood, Melissa Tom Duimstra, and Matthew Arpin; grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew, Julian, Evee, and Ruby; sisters, Carol Bruce DeClark of Grand Rapids, and Marilyn Keith Kaynor of Detroit; aunts, Virginia Paul Vander Broek, Barbara Paul Van Oss, Ruth William Woolpert, and Doris Gordon.
Memorial services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Thornapple Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Interment will be at Fairplains Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may meet Jim’s family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton SE, Grand Rapids. Those unable to attend the visitation or memorial service may sign the family’s Memory Book at www.cookfuneralservices.com.
