Larry loved the Lord with all of his heart. He spent many hours walking and talking with God, tracking every step on his Fitbit (one of his favorite pastimes). He was passionate about sharing his testimony of how God had transformed his life and the life of his family by reuniting them after many years.
Larry enjoyed supporting his kids and grandkids at their school functions and sporting events. He was a lifelong fan of Tigers Baseball. He enjoyed watching spring training in Arizona. Larry also loved deer hunting and working on projects with his brother, Karel. He cherished time spent with family at his cottage and vacationing, making countless memories along the way.
He also loved pouring into the lives of others, whether that be financially, relationally, or other acts of service (often involving his building skills). He was always looking for ways where he could be the hands and feet of Jesus here on this earth. Larry was a character through and through, with a quick wit and quirky sense of humor. He had a gift for storytelling and making people laugh in unexpected ways.
Larry was patient, with the heart of a servant; both traits that make for a great leader. He had a passion for building and helping others. He also had a gift for networking. These qualities served him well in his career. Larry worked at Wolverine Building Group as superintendent for over 25 years and finished his career with Elzinga and Volkers Construction. He oversaw many important projects in Grand Rapids and beyond under his leadership. Now, he has transitioned to a new position, only in Heaven, likely doing what he does best – lending a hand and supervising projects.
His legacy lives on through the lives of his loving wife, Suzanne “Sue” Wolters; and their children Carla and Cory Ellens (Corbin, Sulynn, Brayton, Abrienne), Karen Grasmeyer (Jacob, Reece, Trey, Kylen, Landon), Randy Wolters (Jaxon, Kailyn), Rick and Katie Wolters (Mikayla, Jathan). He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Wolters; and survived by her son, Dave Fowler. Larry is also survived by his siblings Mary Hanna, Phil and Mary Wolters; brothers- and sisters-in-law Pat Wolters, Craig Killingbeck, Jim and Noreen Chapman, Doug and Linda Dill, John and Sharon Dill, Ron and Paula Dill; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Emmogene Wolters; and siblings Phyllis Killingbeck and Karel Wolters.
Although our hearts are heavy, we find reassurance in knowing we’ll be together again.
