

VAN VUGT - Peter Van Vugt, age 100, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Pete was born January 29, 1915, in Westfield, North Dakota. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and moved to Michigan in 1948. A long-time member of Neil Fonger American Legion, Post 179, he participated in many parades and funerals as a member of the drill team.
Pete was employed by Kent Beverage for 30 years. He was a life-long member of the Reformed Church in America: Hope Reformed in Westfield, North Dakota, and Eighth Reformed in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Pete is survived by grandchildren Sarah Thoms and Mike Cooper, Dylan and Jaclyn Dreyer, five great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Norman and Del Van Vugt, brother-in-law Jim Scholten, sister-in-law Evelyn Van Vugt, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Rita (Albright) Van Vugt, in 2000 and by his parents, Gerrit and Katherine (Compaan) Van Vugt, as well as by Ed and Pauline Van Vugt, brother and sister-in-law, Ann and Isaac (Ike) Dornbush, sister and brother-in-law, Angeline and John VanderLaan, sister and brother-in-law, and Helen and Charles (Chuck) Dornbush, sister and brother-in-law and John R. "Bub" Van Vugt, brother.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral service at 11 am at the Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW (East Building) with Pastor Robert Langenberg officiating.
