Rebecca Sue VanZytveld, age 70, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 13, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Edna Seamons; sister, Karen Seamons; special aunt, Mary Wilhite; father-in-law, Philmore Van Zytveld; and brother-in-law, Guy Huskey.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband of 49 years, Steven VanZytveld; daughters Stephanie VanZytveld and Jillian VanZytveld; brother, Herbert “Skip” Seamons Jr.; sister, Mary Allison Huskey; mother-in-law, Christine Van Zytveld; brothers- and sisters-in-law Jeanne and John Nieuwenhuis, Ron and Elaine Van Zytveld, Kathy and Fred Cook, Mary and Tim Bouma, Philip and Cynthia Van Zytveld, David and Betsy Van Zytveld; best friend, Sharon (Jim) Nader; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rebecca loved her family and friends deeply. She used her gifts of storytelling and humor to comfort and entertain her loved ones during life’s most trying moments. As one of the first female telephone installers in Grand Rapids, she prided herself on climbing the poles via hooks instead of using a ladder. Creative and resourceful, Becky had a reputation for elevating the status quo. An active volunteer at her daughters’ school, she was initially drafted to make ornaments for the annual bazaar fundraiser. After being unimpressed with the simple felt bears she’d been assigned her first year, she built a legacy of designing intricate Christmas tree ornaments by the time her daughters graduated. Her whimsical birdhouses, sheep, and even a few of those stuffed bears still grace the branches of trees around West Michigan. Becky loved animals and had many special pets over the years, and she was always delighted by the antics of her "grandcats." She loved Lake Michigan and had the best memories of July 4 celebrations in Manistee and Labor Day picnics at Meinert Park. Having spent her childhood summer vacations visiting family down south, she held a spot in her heart for her mother's hometown of Meridian, Mississippi.
Visitation with Rebecca’s family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 22 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at Cook Memorial Chapel, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. In honor of Becky, contributions may be made to Harbor Humane Society or Borculo Christian School. The family welcomes memories and messages in their online guest book at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
