

He attended Michigan State University and graduated with honors with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduating, he worked for ESSO in Elizabeth, NJ where he spent many happy times in New York City and at the Jersey Shore. Dick served in the United States Army during WWII where he was stationed in the Philippines. He returned to Michigan to attend the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. There he met his future wife, Carolyn Rose Rourke. They were married on October 9, 1954. Dick began his dental career in Muskegon, Michigan and, soon after, moved to Grandville where he launched a very long and successful career practicing dentistry. He loved golf and was a founding member of Sunnybrook Country Club. After retiring from dentistry, he enjoyed working in commercial real estate. Carolyn and Dick loved to travel, and enjoyed many years of wintering in Florida on Singer Island.
Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Rourke Grover; children Patsy Grover and Joe Petri, Robert R. and Charlene Grover, Richard K and Laura Grover, Jr., and Michael D and Veronica Grover; 13 grandchildren: Erin and Michael Gonzalez, Carrie, Jimmy and Matthew Petri, Robert, Jessica and Austin Grover, Richard and Warren Grover, Patrick, Ryan, Christopher and Cameron Grover; and two great-grandchildren Grove and Harper Gonzalez. Dick’s greatest pleasure and source of pride was his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend and will be missed by all.
A time for relatives and friends to visit with Dick’s family will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 30, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 134 N. Division, Grand Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to services at church. The Rev. Dr. Christian F. Brocato will officiate.
