Robert Grooters

13 January, 193117 January, 2021

Robert Grooters went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 90 years. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Barbara; Children Dale (Michele) Grooters, Dawn (Randy) Smits, Darl Grooters (Rick Strauman); grandchildren Laura Smits, John (Kelsey) Smits, Drew (Jaylynn) Grooters, Lauren Grooters; three great-grandchildren Teddy, Emma, and Abe Smits; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bob was a devoted Christian who always put God first. He gave his life to the church and its service, always willing to help others and put their needs before his. He served as an Elder at Trinity CRC and later he and Barb enjoyed worshipping at Baldwin CRC. He was the founder of West Michigan Floral and later in life did maintenance on apartment buildings. With his great smile and charming personality, he was always the perfect gentleman. He enjoyed traveling, boating on Lake Michigan, fishing, golfing, and spending time in his yard gardening and tending to his flowers. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin St., Jenison, MI 49428. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. prior to service. In honor of Bob, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Prison Ministries. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.

When I remember Uncle Bob, he was one of the most respected and honored men that I have ever known. A lifetime of memories come flooding back, from working for him (best boss ever), to being the best man at my wedding. A man of God who loved his family, friends and church. The world has lost a great man but we rejoice that he is with our Heavenly Father, and we will be together for eternity. Our deepest sympathies to the whole family that has lost a prince among men.
Love, Allen and Scherlyn

Dear Barb & family,
Appreciate the many laughs we shared with you and Bob at the Marina, and he was always there to lend a helping hand. Getting to know all your children and grandchildren sure was a treat. We’ll miss him and his memory will live on.

Love,
Tom & Brenda

My most memorable childhood memories are of Uncle Bob taking me on his Michigan route of flower shops. He was always laughing and teasing me about my flaming red hair! When the coffee percolator started on a Sunday afternoon, I knew Uncle Bob and Aunt Barb were coming for a visit...and great times were had by all.
Uncle Bob...you are with the Lord now. Such peace in knowing that.

My deepest condolences to the entire Grooters family.
My parents, Stu and Joyce Palmer the owners of Plainfield Floral always said that if it hadn't been for Bob, they never would have survived the first few years of their new flower shop business.
I remember meeting Bob when I was just a young girl of about 5 or 6 at West Michigan Floral which was down the street from our flower shop. I have many fond memories of him as I grew up, with his big smile and kind heart .
May he rest in peace and may you keep him close in your hearts.

With deepest sympathy,
Sandy Palmer-Berry

Dear Barb, Dale, Dawn and Daryl and families,
I would like to express my deepest sympathies to you all. Prayers that you all will experience the love, peace and comfort in your loss of a dear husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. I remember your dad as someone who loved life and always had a smile. We share memories of get togethers as families as we grew up. We had 4th of July breakfast picnics at Hagar Park and your dad had the camp stove going with bacon and eggs! And all the years we went to L Da Ru lodge on Spider lake. All the fun we had as families on vacation. We also had lots of activities and Sunday worship together at Trinity. Our folks would get together at each other’s houses for steak dinners and I remember not being able to get to sleep because they made a lot of noise having fun together. Prayers and hugs to you all.
