His early work experience included a paper route, working in a fruit market, a meat shop, and a movie theater - and that was all by the age of 14.
After high school, he was ready to see more of the world and found himself in North Dakota guarding nuclear missiles as a member of the United States Air Force.
Within a few years, he became a project manager for a major engineering company in California, assuring projects were completed on time and according to codes and specifications. He continued with this company for many years, moving every three years to take on a new project somewhere in the US.
His last project was in the Detroit area overseeing the construction of several major projects at the Selfridge Air Force Base which included a new air traffic control tower.
At the age of 78, Ed found himself alone. His wife of many years had passed two years earlier. Out of loneliness, he responded to an online message from a woman whose picture he found attractive. She had also lived a very interesting life and her husband of many years had also passed several years earlier. After weeks of messaging and talking on the phone, they finally met for lunch. That first date lasted eight hours and was "love at first sight." On November 2, 2023, Ed Wamboldt and Linda Newbury were married. The love that had blossomed grew deeper and sweeter over the ensuing months of marriage and they were both convinced that God had played a major role in bringing them together; that belief grew stronger every day. While their time together was short, it was filled with tremendous joy and happiness.
Ed Wamboldt passed in peace June 2, 2025, at age 80, with his beloved wife, Linda, at his side. He lived a life that was honorable, compassionate, and loving.
In addition to his wife, Ed leaves behind a very beloved sister, Margaret "Sis" Parkes of Reading, PA; very beloved daughter, Randee Wamboldt Dixon of Rohnert Park, CA; and two beloved stepchildren Ellen Ott and Duane Ott of Grand Rapids, MI; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ed is gone from our sight but never our hearts, and will be deeply missed.
