

Jerome “Jerry” Hallin passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center, at the age of 84, surrounded by his daughters.
Jerry was born to Margaret and Arnold Selm on July 21, 1933, in Mt. Angel, Oregon. When he was 8 years old, his mother was remarried to Reese Hallin, who adopted him. He was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. Jerry was an airplane mechanic stationed initially at Dover AFB in Delaware and later at Luke AFB in Arizona. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
In 1955, Jerry married the love of his life, Ruth J. Nixon, who passed away on May 28, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; and sister, Theresa.
Jerry was employed by Spalding and Son, Inc. sawmill for fifteen years as a millwright. He belonged to the Oregon/Washington Carpenters Union and was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Jerry enjoyed woodworking and was an accomplished craftsman, building several model sized sailing ships. One year he won Grand Champion for one of his ships entered in the Josephine County Fair.
In the summertime, Jerry and his family spent many weekends in Brookings, Oregon, where he enjoyed salmon fishing.
Survivors include four daughters, Cindy Skinner (Tom Reber) of Tacoma, Washington, Kimberly (Matt) Bowers of Merlin, Oregon, Belinda (Richard) Gappen of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Rebecca (Jerry) Nordbye of Tacoma, Washington. He is also survived by a brother, Bud of Medford, Oregon; sister, Meg of Kalama, Washington; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held on February 3, 2018, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass at 10 a.m.; followed by a reception at noon in the banquet room at Herb’s on Rogue River Hwy. for family and friends.
