
Mr. John Arnold Eyers, 78, of Canyonville, Oregon, entered into rest Monday, June 22, 2015. John was born on December 24, 1936 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Chester and Dorothy Eyers. In 1944 the family moved and settled in Grants Pass, Oregon. John graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1956. He married Betty Earline Duckworth of Grants Pass, Oregon, on January 8, 1959. John served in the US Navy as a Radar Technician on the ships Tolovana and Navasota. He lived with his family in Grants Pass and was employed in the timber industry. He also used his Navy experience by volunteering as a rescue diver for the Josephine County Sheriff's Department. In 1981 the family moved to Cove, Oregon where John was a rancher and farmer. In 1991 the family moved again to Canyonville, Oregon. In Canyonville John was a plywood inspector for Pittsburg Testing Labs at Roseburg Forest Product Mills. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught Oregon Hunter's Safety programs for over 30 years, and was a respected expert on archery and weapons, making custom gun stocks from his home shop. He also enjoyed gold mining, building dredges, and even taught a gold mining class at UCC. John was a Christian man and was very involved in the church throughout his life, teaching Bible studies and leading singing, as well as working with Child Evangelism Fellowship at summer camps, Good News Clubs and the fair. He was a member and speaker for The Gideons. He devoted his life to doing good for others. He will be greatly missed and his legacy will never be forgotten. John is survived by his loving wife, Betty Earline Eyers of Canyonville, Oregon, his brother Cecil Eyers of Santa Clara, California, three children, Kathy (Jim) Haman of Roseburg, Oregon, Brenda (Clifford) Farmer of Wrens, Georgia, and Jerry (Dianna) Eyers of Hohenwald, Tennessee, and his twelve grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held at Tri City Baptist Church,158 Crest Drive Myrtle Creek OR, on Tuesday, June 30 at 11:00 am. Reverend Vance Culpepper will be officiating. A graveside service will be held at Granite Hill Cemetary, in Grants, Pass, Oregon on Wednesday, July 1 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Roseburg Chapter of Child Evangelism, 3916 Melrose Rd., Roseburg, OR 97471.
