Mary Jane Thayer, 89, of Grants Pass, OR passed away on September 19, 2014 at her home as a result of liver cancer. She was born December 29, 1924 in Kingsdown, Kansas to parents Louis Cain and Florence (Kirkpatrick) Cain She was a lifetime member of Newman United Methodist Church and a member of their choir. In her early years she was the first runner up in the Miss Grants Pass Beauty Pageant. She went on to marry and have four children. She worked in the meat packing industry for 41 years. She loved to garden, dance, go on walks and read but above all she was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children Kathy Grow & Connie Keever of Grants Pass, Walt Thayer of Camas Washington & Jim Thayer of Talent, OR., 10 grandchildren & 18 grandchildren, Brother John Cain of Taos, NM. She is preceded in death by Sister Ethel Jean (Cain) Bretz & brothers Max & George Cain. A celebration of life will be held at Newman United Methodist Church on September Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 1 pm In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Lovejoy Hospice and Newman United Methodist Church.
