Dava was born Oct 1, 1953 in Victoria, Texas. Fun-loving and free spirited, she was the first of four children to her parents, David Myron Eknes and Carole (Karnowski) Eknes. Her father was a colonel in the Air Force, so they moved around for most of her childhood, even living abroad at various times. Dava was said to always be the rule-following first born. One of her favorite stories was when she was a teenager, and her friends were hanging out after dark and a neighbor came outside and yelled "what are you doing!?" All the kids scattered, and the neighbor yelled "stop!" Of course all the other kids kept running, and Dava stopped! She was a very obedient child.
She met her husband, Lester Disney, whose father was also in the Air Force when she was 16 years old, and he was 15. They married 4 years later at 19 and 20. She worked at Olan Mills and had a "hot rod" red sports car and was nick-named "Mach 1 Mama." She loved to play tennis, dance to Tina Turner and was a jazzercise QUEEN!
Lester and Dava had 3 children, Davina, Katrina, and Lester. They wanted more, but decided 3 was enough. They moved to Trophy Club, TX in 1987 and have remained ever since.
Dava was a beloved wife, sister, mother, Oma, and friend. She truly brought light and happiness to any occasion. She was very sweet and her kids often teased her for crying and getting emotional at the drop of a hat. She was very social and loved to chat away with anyone, even strangers in the grocery store. She led a long and distinguished career at IBM as an inside sales rep for Government contracts and was beloved by all of her customers and co-workers. She retired in June of 2020, just 5 months before her passing. She loved to have sleepovers and watch movies with her two grandchildren, Emma Jane and Rowan Koger. She loved to sneak them treats that their mother didn't know about. She was always there when her family needed her, for big and small things. She was tough and strong and never complained. She was an indefatigable optimist. Her loss left a hole in the hearts of many. May we always continue to reminisce on her life and the joy she brought to this world.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Disney, a sister, Jody Melby, a brother, Dan Eknes, 3 children, Davina James, Katrina Koger, and Lester W Disney, and 2 grandchildren, Emma and Rowan Koger, and a cat, who misses her terribly, Dude.
