Please accept my condolences, support, and love after such a profound loss during an already trying time. I have nice memories of all the laughs we all had. As the weeks and months pass, I hope that the thoughts and memories that pass through your minds bring more smiles than tears. Know that people are keeping you all in their thoughts and that you feel that support.

He was an amazing husband and dad; he would do anything for his kids and wife. He spoiled Ann Marie.  He was always there for her and the kids. Words cannot express how special he was, how kindhearted and loving he was.  His father in law was diagnosed with leukemia and lived with Ann and Joey. Joey worked midnights and would sleep for a only a few hours, then wake up and take his father in law for his  transfusions  - never once complaining. Joey was always there for anyone that needed anything and his friends and neighbors knew that they could always go to him for any kind of help they needed. Ann was so blessed to have had such a wonderful life with a such a wonderful man.

Joey was so kindhearted, warm and loving. He would do anything for anyone, without hesitation. Joe Salvato was so loved by everyone that knew him.    He will be greatly missed.

Heaven has gained a wonderful Angel.


Joe Salvato was born in Chicago, July 21, 1928.  Anyone that knew him, knew he went by “Joey”.  His parents were from Sicily and he had one brother and one sister.  Even though Joey was born in Chicago, he was a Yankees fan!  Joey was always smiling, always, happy – just a happy, cheery guy. He had an effervescent smile and demeanor.  Joey married Ann Marie on October 4th, 1958.  62 amazing years!  Joey was a Chicago Policeman for 33 years.  He also drove a limousine and was a great bowler! 

 After he retired from the Police Department in 1988, the family moved to Grapevine where he drove a school bus for Grapevine for about 10 years and then drove a school bus for Southlake for about another 10 years or so.  Joey loved driving the bus.  He enjoyed the kids and the parents too that would love to say hi and chat with him as they waited for the kids to get off the bus.  Joey drove for many field trips and even for Michael and Nikki’s basketball games in high school. Their teammates thought that was the coolest to have Joe the Bus Driver taking them to the games! 
 
Some of the fond memories from Michael:
Dad used to play catch with him on the side yard and taught him how to play baseball. For some reason, Michael grew up an Astros Fan!

Joe and Ann took them to Florida for vacation every summer. Michael has a lot of fond memories of those times.

One of the best memories was surprising his Dad for his 80th birthday by taking him to New York to see the Yankees play in their final season at Yankee Stadium. 

Nikki – They went to Disneyworld when she was 2. After that trip, Joey did not like the song “It’s a Small World!”  Nikki cried the entire time they were there unless he took her on that ride. I think they rode it about 100 times!  Dad didn’t want to hear that song again for years!  When Nikki got married, almost 12 years ago, she played “It’s a Small World” at her wedding and had everyone dance to that in a big circle!  Dad got a kick out of that.  



Dear Ann & family,
I'm sorry to hear of Joe's passing! I pray that God's grace will comfort all of your hearts.
I have good memories of both our families fun times spent together in our old Chicago neighborhood!

I would like to send my deepest condolences and love to the Salvatos and Brossmans as we celebrate Joe's passing and journey into the bright light. Uncle Joe was always such a kind man and I will always think of him as someone who wanted to escape to the couch to have some peace from all the racket that was happening at family get togethers. I could always relate to this! I'm happy to see he had a peaceful passing in the comfort of his own home and was around his family which is what he wanted. I love you Uncle Joe and we'll see you on the other side.

Nikki, I remember meeting your Dad and he was such a sweet man full of stories and a great outlook on life.  He was a great father and a great grandfather.  I know that he will be truly missed by you and the kids.  He's now a bright light in Heaven and your Guardian Angel in Heaven.  May his light keep shining down on you and your family.

Auntie Annie,

It’s been a while. Probably too long, but none of that matters now. Just know that Marcela and I  are here for you for whatever you need. That goes for all of you guys, the whole fam. I, and although it was a different time, I’m sure I speak for Michael and Cheryl as well when I say, how I’ll never forget the memories I have as a very young kid, and how I ALWAYS wanted  to go to Auntie Annie‘s. That was it as a little kid! Not to mention how I miss the smells..... and of course your amazing cooking and gravy! Those are my Chicago memories.... right up until the time we moved to Florida. It’s crazy some of the stuff you remember. Like I said, Marcela and I are here for you AND your family.

Our deepest condolences to the Salvato and Brossman family for the loss of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and cherished uncle to many.  I will miss hearing his cheery voice every time I called: each time telling me he was playing solitaire, his favorite pastime.  I will cherish my happy memories of spending many years during each summer to hang out with my aunt and uncle and having a blast.  May you rest in peace now, Uncle Joe!

I remember when Ann & Joe moved their family to Texas in 1988. The...BEST....neighbors ever! Joe decided it would be fun to become a school bus driver...retiring after 30 years from the Chicago police department. This of course, made him the hero of every pre-schooler on our block. ( A real live school bus driver living among us!) Joe would periodically swing by our street after his route and take the kids on a short ride around the block on his empty bus, which was the highlight of our girls’ day. Stacy & Drew were 3 and 4 at the time and adored Joe. He would tease Drew occasionally and ask, “are you married yet?” Well Joe, she isn’t married yet, but when she is, I hope it’s to someone as gentle, kind and loving as you. We will love you always....and our love to you and your family, Ann. Mike, Barb, Stacy & Drew

Nikki is one of my best friends so I got the pleasure of getting to know Joe and Ann at some family get togethers.  I will always remember that beautiful smile he always had on his face.  He was very quiet but you always wondered what he was thinking as he watched the party go on!  My sympathy for Ann as they have been together for a long time and I know she will be lost without her partner by her side but Joe will always be watching over her and his family from above.  May the wonderful memories always stay close to your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was so sad to hear of the loss of Joe.  I met him over 30 years ago when they moved to Texas and Ann and I started working together.  He was always funny and upbeat and he and Ann made a great couple.  I will be praying for peace and comfort for the family. 

I just found out this evening about Joe's passing and my heart broke. I always referred to him as my "boyfriend" and he seemed to get a kick out of that. I love both Joe and AnnMarie and their family so much.  I have great memories of  them. My sympathy to AnnMarie, the children and the  grandkids too. Rest in peace, my boyfriend.  Look for my husband Johnny and tell him I miss him.

Although it took no encouragement to make me a die-hard Cubs fan, Joey was the only person in the whole world who could convince me to cheer for the Yankees as well.  In his honor, I plan to cheer them on to a probable World Series win this year, and I know Joey will have the best seat in the house for each game.
