In the days preceding her passing, Judy was blessed to enjoy visits from numerous family members, surrounded by love and meaningful moments.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thompson; her three brothers, John McNeff, James McNeff, and Joseph McNeff; and her son-in-law, “Big Ed” Gibson.
Judy attended Grand Prairie High School, where she was a proud member of the National Honor Society. Shortly after high school, she married Charles Thompson and began life as a devoted military wife. Their journey took them to Army bases throughout the United States and Germany, embracing the adventures and challenges of military life as well as growing their family.
In 1963, the family of seven moved to University Park, where Judy raised her five children. She worked at SMU while also attending school at SMU and later began a long and dedicated career with the Society of Petroleum Engineers, where she worked for more than 35 years, retiring at the age of 78.
To know Judy was to know someone deeply devoted to her family. She had a heart of gold and was always the first to lend a helping hand. She cherished having her family close by and loved hosting holidays and pool parties at her Colleyville home. You could often find Judy reading her favorite Readers Digest, saving an article for a family member or finishing a crossword puzzle. She was always thinking of others.
She instilled in each of her children the importance of loyalty and family, teaching them to stand by one another, value their roots, and always show up for the people they love.
Judy is survived by her five children: Patricia Thompson Gibson (Wayne); Bob (Gail) Thompson; Rick (Teresa) Thompson; Ron Thompson; and Ed (Robin) Thompson; her brother, Jeff (Sally) McNeff; her nine grandchildren; and her thirteen great-grandchildren to whom she will always be lovingly remembered as “Grandma Judy.”
Her family takes comfort in knowing that this incredible angel is now at peace.
