Richard was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 19, 1945. He graduated from North Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Arts from Duquesne University. He married Kathleen Knerler on April 15, 1968. He served as an Army Captain until 1972. Richard then worked as Location Manager for Brownell Electro and later retired from AT&T.
Richard was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church from the time Mass was held at the local Jr. High. He enjoyed being an usher at the Saturday Mass, gardening both at home and at the church community garden, reading science fiction, woodworking and most of all, napping. He really enjoyed music - more than once Kathy came home to the sounds of Celine Dion or Carly Simon blasting from living room into the garage.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Joseph P. and Marion Herzog. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy, his daughters Maria Herzog, Sandy Sauer and her husband Mike, sister Marion Hess, brothers Joseph M., Paul, and Dan Herzog, grandchildren Holly, Brandon, Bryan, Charlie and Abby and many relatives and friends. His humor, kind heart and warm smile will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Euless Public Library Foundation at eulesslibraryfoundation.org.
