Sherry Elaine Faidley Blackshear passed away on December 15, 2018, in Grapevine, Texas at her home of forty years after a three-and-a-half-year battle with ovarian cancer. Sherry was an avid reader who, more than anything, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a passion for genealogy, classical music, hiking, and kayaking. Sherry loved the companionship of her two Dalmatians Rider and Smitty. In retirement, Sherry and her husband Ron spent much of their free time traveling. Most summers they could be found at South Mineral Campground in the San Juan Mountains outside of Silverton, Colorado.
Sherry was born on March 30, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas to Laurence Deane Faidley and Janice Juanita Pritchard. She graduated from Wichita Falls Rider High School in 1969. Sherry spent much of her career as an Assistant Business Manager at Grapevine Memorial Hospital and later retired from her position as the Business and Finance Director of the Masonic Home and School of Texas.
Sherry is survived by her husband Ronald Lynn Blackshear. Son Paul Veile Blackshear, wife Stacey, their children Dean, Emily, Maddie, and J.D. of Atascocita, Texas. Son Dylan Blackshear of Dallas, Texas. Sister Trina Faidley Gilchrist and husband Charlie of Willow Park, Texas. Nephew Stephen Gilchrist and wife Pamela of Aledo, Texas. Nephew Reese Gilchrist of Fort Worth, Texas. Sister-in-law Debra Blackshear Rucker and husband Dooley of Bolivar, Texas. Niece Jamie Rucker Cocke, husband Gary, their children Clara and Owen of Denton, Texas. Nephew Justin Rucker and wife Lauren of Durango, Colorado. Sherry was preceded in death by her son Richard Veile Blackshear and brother Larry Deane Faidley.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Shannon N. Westin at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Tiffany Sneed, RN with VNA Hospice Care who both did so much to help Sherry in her fight against cancer.
A memorial service celebrating Sherry’s life will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 22, at J.E. Foust and Son Funeral Home in Grapevine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) at events.ovarian.org/nocc/donate.
