Tammy grew up in Silsbee, TX. Following graduation from Silsbee High School In 1986, she attended Lamar University, in Beaumont, TX earning her BS degree in Psychology.
In 1994, Tammy joined the U.S. Navy, completing Recruit Training in Orlando, FL then transferred to Hospital Corpsman training school in Great Lakes (Chicago). Following Corpsman training, she was transferred to the Navy Hospital in Pensacola, FL. While stationed in Pensacola, it was here where she met her future husband, Mark Grasmick. Following her tour in Pensacola, she was transferred to the Portsmouth, VA Naval Hospital where she completed her military service in 2000. While stationed in VA, she pursued a MS degree in Education at Old Dominion University. Following graduation from Old Dominion in 2000, she and Mark married; she then joined Mark, who was stationed at Naval Air Station Brunswick, ME.
In 2002, Tammy and Mark moved from Maine to Lexington Park, MD. Here, Tammy began her new career as a Guidance Counselor at Chopticon High School.
In 2005, Tammy and Mark moved to Carrollton, TX where Tammy continued her career at Delay Middle School as a Guidance Counselor. It was this same year that Tammy and Mark welcomed their first and only child, Payton Rose Grasmick, born June 2005.
In 2007, Tammy and her family, moved to the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. Here, Tammy worked at Mokapu Elementary School as a Guidance Counselor. Following her husband’s retirement from military service in 2009, she and her family moved to Keller, TX where Tammy began her 15-year tenure at Carroll Senior High School as a Guidance Counselor. In 2015, Tammy, Mark, and Payton moved to their current residence in Southlake, TX. On Feb 12, 2024, Tammy decided it was time to return home from the hospital so that she could say her goodbyes to all her co-workers, friends, and family. On Feb 15, 2024, while surrounded by loved ones, Tammy passed away due to complications stemming from myelofibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia.
Throughout the years, in addition to her devotion to her work with children, she spent a significant amount of her time involved in various military spouse organizations and support of her husband who was deployed abroad many days, weeks, and months.
Tammy had two distinct passions. First, was her devotion to her students as a Guidance Counselor. Tammy took great pride ensuring her student’s needs were met and that they were provided the necessary guidance and leadership as they transitioned from high school students to young adulthood. Outside of work, Tammy continued to spend many nights and early mornings at home responding to her student’s emails and compiling letters needed by the college acceptance process.
Tammy’s second passion was in her daughter’s participation in various athletics. Starting when Payton turned one year old, Tammy enrolled her in gymnastics in Carrollton, TX. Upon moving to Hawaii, in addition to her work as a school counselor and the demands of being a military spouse, she took much pride in spending afterwork hours and weekends volunteering in her daughter’s gymnastics and daycare activities.
Following her family’s move from Hawaii to Keller, TX, Tammy’s devotion to her daughter’s athleticism continued with support of gymnastics events and as assistant soccer coach for Payton’s team. A few years later, Tammy’s daughter at age seven, took up competitive cheer. From this time until Payton’s graduation in 2023, Tammy was extensively involved in her daughter’s various cheering endeavors in Competitive Cheer, Middle School Cheer, and High School Cheer. Throughout the year, you would find Tammy attending her daughter’s competitive cheer practices at Spirit Xtreme in Southlake, TX. During the cheer competition events, Tammy was always there in the front row supporting her daughter’s team.
For Middle and High School Cheer, Tammy was always supportive of her daughter’s cheer team. She attended all the games where you would find her with her fellow cheer moms supporting the team with cowbells in hand.
This last year, Tammy spent many days with Payton, as she prepared for her freshman year of college at the University of Oklahoma. She joined Payton many times preparing her new dorm room and assisting her as she completed the sorority selection process.
Tammy’s devotion to her students at Carroll Senior High School and her involvement in the various cheer groups, wife, mother, and friend will be profoundly missed.
