Walter Wawrzyniak

Wladyslaw “Walter” Wawrzyniak, age 89 of Grapevine, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 in Grapevine, Texas. Walter was born in Szynkielow, Poland, June 25, 1925 to the late Marcin and Wiktoria Dobras Wawrzyniak. Walter immigrated to the United States from Poland after WWII arriving through Ellis Island. He settled in Illinois where he worked as a barber for over forty years, ultimately owning his own shop, Wally’s Barber Shop. In 1953, he married Wanda Opilka and 4 years later had their only child Lucy. Walter attended the Roman Catholic Church, the Polish National Catholic Church, came to have a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior and shared his love of the Lord with all those he knew. He enjoyed visiting prison inmates where he served as a prison chaplain and shared his beautiful singing voice with his congregation at Homewood Full Gospel church. Walter enjoyed life, his family and friends, reading, yard work, his dogs and the Chicago White Sox. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Franek Wawrzyniak, two sisters, Hela Smolnik and Jasia Urbaniak. Walter is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda; daughter and son-in-law, Lucy and Chris Badger of Grapevine; two grandsons, Jonathan Badger and his wife Shannon of San Antonio and Daniel Badger and his wife Cari of Houston; granddaughter, Anna Badger of San Antonio; two sister, Stefa Kosek and her husband Jozef and Genia Kolanek all of Poland; three great grandsons, Judah Badger, Ethan Badger and Christian Badger and numerous other family members and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 from 7-9:00 pm at J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Home in Grapevine. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:00 am at J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Home Chapel at Grapevine. A grave side service will follow at the Grapevine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Real Choices Crisis Medical Center, 2401 Ira E. Woods Avenue, Suite 300, Grapevine, Texas 76051. It would honor Walter to help, even in death, the pro-life movement.
