I spent my childhood growing up with the Beckerman family.  Aaron will always hold a very special place in my heart and in my memories.

My sincere condolences to you, Sofi, and your wonderful family. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting your grandfather, I did have the privilege of hearing a story or two and seeing photos of you with him and got to appreciate him through your love for him.

Dr. Beckerman was a wonderful professor. I still remember his classes from 35 years ago when I was studying for my MSW.  I am sad to learn of his passing.  My sympathies to his loved ones.  Please know how many of us he touched at Wurzweiler.

My Uncle Aaron will live in our hearts forever.  He was as good an uncle as one could have.
I used to look forward to his visits; he talked to kids in a way that most adults didn't. He seemed to respect us and treat us as equals.
I used to enjoy having political arguments with him; whatever position he took, I took the opposite position for purposes of the argument. Sometimes I sounded like a Barry Goldwater Republican.
Our children Liza, Josh, and Eli, grandnephews and grandniece, had similar memories of how much fun it was to interact with Aaron at family gatherings.
My father, Hy, was very very close with Aaron. When my father came back from the war, after being a prisoner of war for almost 2 years, he hadn't cried, something he of course needed to do. It was seeing a smiling photo of Aaron in uniform that finally opened the floodgates for him. The thought of his brother still being over there was what set him off.
Aaron played an instrumental role in my life before I was even a gleam in my mother's eye. One day after the war, Aaron got his big brother to agree to go a movie with Aaron's friend Wally's big sister Thelma. Thelma and Hy became an item right away, got married months later, and as luck would have it, had me.
When the graduate school at Hunter School of Social Work went out on strike to protest the politically motivated denial of tenure to Aaron, my father attended the protest rally in support of his brother, and it meant so much to each  of them to be together then.
Despite being retired, Aaron was fighting hard for universal healthcare, knowing full well that it wasn't likely to be achieved in his lifetime, but he was a Beckerman, and fought for what was right, and for future generations.. 
Despite being of an earlier generation, he made the painful transition to working with email.
Many of our recent emails dealt with his trying to learn how his group, Kindling Reform, could better harness the power of the internet and social media to bring their message to a wider audience. Not an easy task for a guy who was born when they were still cranking cars to start them up.
In one of our last email exchanges, he made me explain what the internet acrononym "IMHO" means (in my humble opinion).
He never stopped growing, and learning, and asking why.
For an 88 year old he was quite young.
I guess I thought he would live forever. 
And in a way, he will.

Dear Ann and the Beckerman family,
Aaron was a valued colleague and friend.  His recent book of poems spoke to to me with love, and wisdom and humor.  I especially enjoyed, "What goes Around."  Sheila and I will miss his intellect and his warmth.

To the Beckerman Family: Please accept Jessica's and my suncerest condolences.  Aaron was a warm, sincere colleague and friend over the years.  His idealism and decency always comes to mind.  Love, George Getzel
