

UNGER--Howard, of Port Washington, NY and Boca Raton, FL, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, August 7, 2017 from complications related to a stroke. Born September 18, 1929 in Woodside, Queens. He was co-owner of Unger Bros. Auto Sales in Woodside, Queens and owned and managed commercial Real Estate properties. Mr. Unger served as an MP in the Korean War and was on bodyguard detail of General Van Fleet, head of allied forces, and the President of Korea, Sigmund Rhee. A passionate yachtsman, he and his wife, Helen, sailed Long Island Sound and then the Caribbean Sea in their 42 foot ketch for 10 years. They were avid travelers and trekked the world. Golfer, sportsman, teacher of navigation, boating magazine author. A great "trouble-shooter" and Mr Fix-it. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he will be remembered with love. Mr. Unger is survived by his wife, Helen, of almost 63 years, his daughter, Diane, with husband Ken Yormark, his son, Lawrence with wife Suzette Unger and five grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Adam, Rebecca and Sam. Funeral Services will be held at Riverside-Nassau North Chapel, 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY 11021. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the National Stroke Association or to a charity of your choice.
