

Lorber, Jerome Zachary; 93 years old, joined his beloved Bette on October 21, 2011. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Perlish Lorber and Bette Weintraub Lorber. Devoted father of Dan and Deborah Lorber, Henry and Elizabeth Lorber, Julia Benson, Carol and Lawrence Rizzolo. Cherished grandfather of Andrew, Eric, Kathryn, Michael, Sarah, David, Gregory, Douglas, Trevor, and Cathy. Loving stepfather of Barbara and Stewart Sims, Richard and Patti Weintraub, Mark and Alice Weintraub. Proud grandfather and great-grandfather to Bette’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry was a proud graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School. He was admitted to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, but never practiced law. From 1941 to 1945, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army General Staff in the Pacific theater, receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Coming home after the war, he married Ruth Frank. He became President of Woodside Savings and Loan and began an illustrious real estate career, housing many returning veterans of the Korean war in Queens.
He became President of Temple Sinai in Roslyn and was active in numerous Jewish organizations.
Jerry was an active philanthropist, generously donating to many, many charitable organizations. He was a believer in education and funded an important medical education initiative at Long Island Jewish Hospital, where he was a life trustee.
He was an avid reader of history, political science, and philosophy, always ready to discuss these topics with great wisdom.
He leaves a legacy of love and knowledge for generations to come.
