My condolences to the family and I am sorry that I have just discovered this obituary.

Mr. Dick was one of my high school teachers.
He had an amazing sense of style and taught me the art of making speeches to persuade, and inform. 

What I loved most was how much he loved teaching, and making sure our diction and pronunciation was on point!
 
All that he imparted served me well when I became a  TV co-host and producer… and  continue to serve me as a marketing and brand strategy  executive.

Mr. Dick was delighted when I asked him to write a college recommendation for me and I vividly recall how very happy he was when I was accepted to my number one choice school!

Great teachers leave lasting legacies in the lives of their students.

Mr. Dick was a great teacher and I hope my fond memories of him are a blessing to his family.

I remember many teachers from my three years at Tilden.  Some for their passion for the subject they taught; some for their sense of humor and a few for their dedication to the profession.
Mr. Joel Dick was the consummate equivalence of all those traits and more. 
I learned to value myself.  To speak English without a Brooklyn accent. To learn the art of conversation and most important to “enunciate”. 
He was the one teacher,  over the last 58 years since my graduation from that school,
that I still mention to my husband and friends. He had a profound influence on my life. 
We need many more like him in education today. 
Thank you for your example of what a dedicated teacher can accomplish .

I have only just learned of Joel Dick's passing. If I have been able to enjoy the exciting life I have led, it is in no small part thanks to his encouragement. When I was about to give up my dreams of a career in acting he put me back on track and led me to an international adventure in theatre and film. And when I began to coach young actors, your love of teaching guided me. You and Everett will always be in my heart. You live on in all of us.

Mr Dick played a significant role in my life. I met my beloved wife, Barbara, in one of his drama classes in the 1960's. (It was love at first sight, and we're still very happily married). Mr Dick was one of my few mentors. I would like to think that he instilled in me a certain degree of "you can do it" self-confidence. I will always remember his grace and dignity. Although I had lost touch with him an eternity ago, I think of him often. I just learned of his death and I am saddened. I miss him.

Joel was my Speech teacher in Tilden H.S. HIS lessons were so informative and unforgettable. I learned how to correctly pronounce so many words and enriched my vocabulary in his class. He was friendly, dedicated and a great educator. So sad to hear of his passing.

Mr. Dick was a professional and a tremendously talented English teacher.  He had a great influence upon my career and my life.  He will be missed and never forgotten.
