Joseph Sidney Lupkin passed away peacefully in his home in Great Neck, L.I., N.Y., on April 4, 2024 at the age of 80 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Rona Lupkin, brother Stanley Lupkin (Anne), children Paula Lupkin, Lawrence Lupkin, Joshua Lupkin, and Daniel Lupkin (Juno), and grandchildren Jacob Walker, Alex Lupkin, and Autumn Lupkin.
He was born in Brooklyn on November 14, 1943, raised by parents David and Sylvia (Strassman) Lupkin in the Marine Park/Madison neighborhood. He and Rona, who first met at George Washington University, built a longstanding marriage and family in Brooklyn and later in Great Neck. Joseph built a career in his family’s cardboard manufacturing business and was an active member of the community at Temple Israel of Great Neck. Over the course of his life he nurtured interests in subjects diverse as baseball, bicycling, the American songbook, teaching and learning from his community at the Institute of Retired Professionals, and above all else in spending time with his family. His calm and warm generosity will stand out in the memory of those who knew and loved him.
The funeral will be held at Riverside Nassau North Chapels in Great Neck on Sunday April 7 at 9:30 a.m. All friends and family are welcome. Those wishing to make donations can direct them to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
