Alicea Ann Avers of Evans died July 14, 2011 at her home. She was born February 8, 1971 in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Michael Don and Sheila Marie (Chance) Avers.
She was reared and educated in Liberal, Kansas where she graduated from Liberal High School. After graduation she lived in Hugoton, Kansas and later moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She met Sam Sperstad there and they were married August 24, 1991 in Liberal, Kansas. After their marriage they lived in Gering, Nebraska. She graduated from Western Nebraska Community College with an associates degree in science. Their sons were both born in Scottsbluff. The family moved to Greeley in 1996, where their daughter was born. They later divorced, but remained friends.
She loved to write poetry, listen to music, concerts, and to dance. She was an artist and enjoyed making collages and painting. She had a true appreciation for the arts. She loved her cats and enjoyed her flower gardens. Above all was her love for her children.
She is survived by her children Levi Sperstad, Samuel Sperstad and Emily Sperstad, all of Greeley; her mother Sheila Watson and her step-father Gene of Greeley; her grandparents Doris and Steve Stevenson of Terlton, Oklahoma; her sisters, Judith Avers, and her spouse Frances Southwick of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Casey Wolk and her husband Peter of Chico, California, and Carey Keith and her husband Greg of Greeley; brothers Michael Avers and his wife Aubrey of Greeley, half-brother Riley Avers of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-children Natalie Sperstad of Greeley, Diana Sperstad of Denver, and Sarah Sperstad of Fort Collins. She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Stoddard Funeral Home. Inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alicea Avers Memorial Fund in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
