"Tony" was born October 4, 1942 in Walsenburg, Colorado and adopted by his parents: Luz and Amada (Lucero) Hurtado. He was raised and educated in Walsenburg, graduating from Walsenburg High School in 1961. After graduation Tony joined the Army. On June 29, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart Maria Nora Gallegos in Paso Robles, California. After serving in Vietnam and his honorable discharge in 1966, Tony returned to Maria who was living in Greeley. The couple made their home between Walsenburg and Greeley while Tony worked as a truck driver before settling in Greeley in 1984. It was around this time that he was forced to retire due to a work related injury. Later in life Tony developed a relationship with his biological mother, Eufemia Vasquez, an opportunity he was grateful for.
Tony enjoyed working on cars as a pastime and was a handyman around the house, taking on many projects. He loved being with family and friends. One of his favorite things to do in the Christmas season was to play Santa Clause at the request of family, friends and local business'. He particularly enjoyed when he would have the assistance from his elf, Brandon. He was also a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Evans VFW # 6624.
Tony will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Maria also known as Nora; daughter, Sheryl Hurtado and her fiancé Richard Mireles; sons: Jeff Hurtado and Duane (Sara) Hurtado; Grandchildren: Theodore (Janae) Tafoya Jr., Desiree Tafoya, Xavier Hurtado, Duane Hurtado Jr., Dustin Hurtado, Shylo Hurtado and Shelby Nelson; brother, Dave Baca, Aunt Susie (Silver) Bobian and many nieces and nephews. He also has 10 great grandchildren.
