Robert A. “Bob” Zimmer of Loveland, Colorado passed away on February 14, 2018 from surgical complications after an almost 28 year battle with thyroid cancer. He never allowed the cancer to define him.
Bob was born May 26, 1954 to Donald and Frances (Herman) Zimmer in Minneapolis and grew up near East Bethel, Minnesota. Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota with both a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering. He later graduated from Colorado State University with his Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. Bob worked as an electrical engineer for Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ in 1978 then moved to Loveland to work at Hewlett-Packard in January 1979 and stayed with the organization as it evolved to Agilent, Avago, and Broadcom until his retirement on June 2, 2017.
Bob married Kayla Moyer on May 27, 1978 in Minneapolis, MN. He and Kayla shared a lifetime love of wood working and he spent a lot of time tackling home projects – including building his own home along with Kayla, building the cabinets in their kitchen, doing numerous remodeling projects in their home, and working with Kayla and Jake at Specialized Balsa Wood LLC. At work, Bob was known to be the problem solver which was true at home and at the family business. He was very good at fixing whatever needed to be repaired. He also enjoyed spending time and taking trips with his family including the trips back to his family’s farm in Minnesota. He enjoyed softball after work with some of his coworkers, watching his son play sports, and movie watching with him. His cooking specialties were making brownies and apple crisp.
Bob is survived by his wife Kayla and son Jake of Loveland; siblings Donald Zimmer (Janet) of Roseville, CA, Judy Snyder (Bob) of Andover, MN, Ronald Zimmer (Adrian) of Camarillo, CA; father-in-law Robert Moyer of Loveland, sister-in-law Jayne Moyer of Osage, MN and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Kelly and mother-in-law Erma Moyer.
