

Charles Michael Lewis (better known to family and friends as ‘Charlie’ or ‘Coach Lewis’), 64, of Platteville, Colorado passed away Tuesday morning August 25th at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado following a battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer. He was born on September 9, 1950 in Milliken, Colorado to Frank and Lucy Lewis.
He is preceded in death by his mother Lucy (Fresquez) Lewis. He is survived by his father Frank Lewis, his three sons Jarred Lewis, Aaron Lewis, and Nathan Lewis; his four brothers Bob Lewis, Lee Lewis, Bill Lewis, and Sam Lewis; his two grandchildren Addison Lewis and Jarren Lewis; and his former wife of 29 years Marilyn (Weitzel) Lewis.
Raised in Platteville Colorado the son of Frank and Lucy (Fresquez) Lewis, he was a lifelong resident of Northern Colorado.
In his early years he attended Valley High School in Gilcrest and was a standout athlete playing football, basketball, and baseball, graduating in 1968. After high school he attended Colorado Northwestern Junior College where he played baseball and then went on to Eastern Oregon University on a baseball scholarship where he completed his undergraduate degree. He earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1981.
After his undergraduate degree, Charlie then went on to earn his title of ‘Coach Lewis’ at Fort Lupton High School where he began coaching in 1973, he was an assistant baseball coach for 3 years, and then served as the Head Baseball Coach for 23 years to 1999. In parallel he worked as a Physical Education teacher for 34 years at Fort Lupton Middle School, and also coached Middle School football in the fall and Middle School boys/girls basketball in the winter. During summers he coached youth baseball in Ft. Lupton and Greeley including Legion A, B, & C. He retired from teaching in 2007 & coaching in 2013.
Coach Lewis had a passion for sports, especially baseball. He was a lifelong student of the game and he could often be seen anywhere from Butch Butler field in Greeley, to Coors Field in Denver, just enjoying a ball game.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley. A viewing and Rosary will be held on Thursday Aug 27th evening at Stoddard, family viewing will be from 4-5pm, public viewing from 5-7pm, and Rosary at 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday Aug 28th at 10:30am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Platteville and is open to all family and friends.
