Darrell Lee Leggett went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2020. He was born May 30, 1942 to Alvin and Viola Mae Leggett in Century, OK. On May 5, 1962 Darrell married Glenda Cox with whom he raised three wonderful children.
Darrell was an underground uranium miner in his early 20’s for nearly 5 years. In 1964 he moved his family to California to cut meat for retail stores and go to school to become a journeyman meat processor. He desired to learn both the retail and wholesale aspects of meat processing so one day he could have his own meat processing business. Due to changes in the California meat industry, Darrell moved his family to Colorado in 1967 to work in meat processing plants. Then in 1977 Darrell and Glenda bought Valley Packing, a meat processing facility in LaSalle, CO. Together they owned and operated Valley Packing until 1995. He and Glenda retired in 2000, moving west of Trinidad, CO where they built an off-grid mountain home, and lived there until his health forced him to return to Greeley in March 2019.
Darrell was a man of the outdoors, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, fixing things, and raising animals. He raised birds, rabbits, goats, and cows of all different species from rare to domestic. He liked helping others, but most of all he loved and was proud of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren more than he knew how to express.
Darrell is survived by his wife Glenda Leggett, children Kathy (Allen) Meeks of Milliken, CO; Jim (Lenore) Cox of Trinidad, CO; and Cheryl Gurney of Greeley, CO; five grandchildren, Mark Lee (Lindsay) Gurney, Melissa (Matt) Schultz, Stephanie Lopez, Jennifer Blackmer, and Amanda (Aaron) Gardner; eleven great grandchildren and siblings Larry (Judy) Leggett and Linda (Roy) Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, four brothers, two sisters, and beloved son in law.
Darrell’s Life Celebration will be at 2:00pm on May 15, 2020 at Allnutt Funeral Service.
