Darroll LeRoy Crabb, 76, of Johnstown, passed away at University Hospital, Aurora, CO, on Friday, January 22, 2021. Darroll, the son of Glennwood and Leola (Tanner) Crabb, grew up in Genoa, CO. He had 5 siblings: Norman, Lois, Virginia, Larry and Sharon.
Darroll loved sports and wanted, more than anything as a youth basketball player, to jump high enough to slam dunk like the pros.
Darroll’s passion in life was creating things with his hands. He was a master craftsman. From interior trim on custom homes, to gunstocks, to hand turned canes, and even handmade model train cars. He had sawdust for blood and putting his hands on wood made magic and unbelievable beauty. He was an avid collector and loved coins, M&Ms, Coke, and many other collectables.
He was an avid trap shooter and enjoyed the sport so much that he and Nina formed a company that provided accessories for all kinds of shotgun range sports. They traveled around the country selling their products and participating in the sport they both loved.
Darroll loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He had fond memories of time spent in Alaska and trekking in the Brooks Range with his brother Larry. He passed his love of the wilds and the Colorado Mountains to all of his family.
He often worried that his tender heart made him seem like less of a man, but anyone who knew him, knew that it was one of his best qualities. His playful demeanor and love of life and those in it made everyone love him.
He is survived by his adored wife Nina Bratcher; three sons Mark, Paul, and Scott; 2 daughters in-law Kellie and Carol; 7 grandchildren and their spouse’s and 8 great-grandchildren: Zachary and Jessica, Garret and Heather, Samantha, Anissa, Colton and Julia, Alesha, Avalie, Dakota, Ivy, Ryan, Owen, Blake, Miles, Kevin and Stryker.
He was in life our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and so much more. He enriched the lives of those he touched and he will be missed beyond words.
