David passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at age 77.
David met Kaye Chapman at the Park Skating Rink in Zion, Illinois. The couple was married on March 3, 1966 by a Justice of the Peace in Ortonville, Minnesota during a historic blizzard. The couple welcomed their daughter, Cheryl, in 1968, and son, Stephen in 1970. The family moved to Eaton, Colorado in 1978. They enjoyed the mountains and taking trips together.
Following the loss of his wife, Kaye, David married Bonnie (Bloemker) Stephenson on September 19, 1992. The couple enjoyed square-dancing and traveling after his retirement from the telephone company.
Surviving family members include sister, Kathy (Fred) Reardon of Livermore, California; daughter, Cheryl Lyon Pelton of Bailey, Colorado; son Stephen (Holly) Lyon of Wellington, Colorado; grandsons, Daniel, William, and Andrew; stepchildren Michael (Michelle) Stephenson of Eaton, Colorado; Russell (Jenn) Stephenson of Serverance, Colorado; 6 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John & Ruth Lyon, brother, Johnny Lyon, wife Kaye (Chapman) Lyon, wife Bonnie (Bloemker) Lyon, and stepdaughter Laura Stephenson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm, Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greeley, Colorado. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will precede the service for those wishing to pay their respects and offer condolences.
