David ‘Dave’ Warner, 60, passed away unexpectedly on November 18th, 2016. He was born to William and Elda Warner and raised in Sterling, IL. He attended Southern Illinois University where he graduated with degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering. During his time at SIU he met the love of his life, Jan. They were married in Evanston, IL in 1986. They raised four amazing children and celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this year. Dave worked over 30 years in the hydroelectric industry between Woodward Governor and G.E. He worked in field service, sales and engineering. He was responsible for the design and control of some of the world’s largest hydroelectric power plants. Including Aswan in Egypt and working with control engineers in China and South America. While at G.E. Dave was a Principal Mechanical Engineer and was awarded a design patent for control hardware. The family enjoyed many trips together to Minocqua, WI and the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota. They enjoyed quiet canoe trips and rowdy games of Scattergories at the cabin, the latter fueled by several rounds of Tanqueray and tonics. His passion for tennis started at a very young age and continued throughout his life, forming friendships on the courts along the way. Family and friends found solace in that he was an active player up until his passing. Dave’s love of sports extended to his alma mater, SIU. Ever a Saluki fan, Dave took annual road trips to St. Louis for the Missouri Valley Basketball Tournament and regularly posted to a Saluki athletics message board. Having recently announced his retirement, Dave enjoyed taking on projects around the family home including overhauling the landscaping. He could always be found accompanied by his right hand man, the family dog Breuer, whom he took on morning and nightly walks around the neighborhood and errands around the city. His passions included reading, good conversation and being a grandfather to Hudson. Dave’s winning recipes were his Nona’s spaghetti sauce and family style mac and cheese. He made friends easily, was interested in others’ lives. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He lived his life caring for his family and friends. Dave was compassionate, funny, outgoing, kind, a good hugger, and a loving partner to his wife Jan. Dave is survived by his wife Jan, daughter Kelsey (husband Alex and son Hudson), sons Kyle, Mike and Bryan Warner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dave’s name may be made to the SIU Foundation or the USTA Foundation in care of Allnutt Funeral Service. A visitation will be open to the community on Tuesday, November 29th from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Allnutt Funeral Service (650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins). A 1:00 luncheon and celebration will follow at the Tapestry House (3212 N Overland Trail, Laporte, CO.).
