Debra Lyn (Newcomb) Zook, 53, of Granby, Colorado, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 18th, suddenly, due to a pulmonary embolism. She was born in Denver, Colorado on April 5th, 1963 to Chuck and Joyce Newcomb. Deb graduated from Poudre High School. She attended CSU for Business Administration, and was President of My Sister’s Keeper, a 501c3 that helps to bring justice to abused women. She was married to Douglas Zook on February 14th, 1998.
Deb was a sensitive and exceptionally gifted leader with a great passion for teaching. She was also a successful business owner, running Boarding & Beyond in Aurora, taking care of God’s creatures. She loved creative expression, whether that was writing her book, painting, and knitting and crocheting, and also photography. She especially loved the beach and scuba diving. She never lost a game playing paintball as she was competitive and fierce. She was a force to be reckoned with during a game of scrabble and had a great sense of humor. She was a loving “Grammy” to her granddaughters, and a confidant and guide to her children who loved her so. She lit up every room when she entered and was adored by everyone who met her. Most of all, she had an insatiable hunger to really know the Lord Jesus Christ.
She was so passionate about Jesus and was filled with grace, love, endurance and wisdom. She was persistent and sought after the Lord with her entire being. Deb ached for others to follow her lead and push past the surface, uncover heavenly puzzles and mysteries to experience His Love deeper every day. She was a champion for women, and she fought injustice for those who couldn’t. She was an empath, so compassionate and sweet. She was wise and committed, unwaveringly following her Lord’s command to pasture His calves. She looked forward to the day that she met her Abba, Father, in heaven and we take comfort knowing that she is dancing with Him now. Deb would have wanted you to know that He loves you and that you can find new life in Jesus.
Deb is survived by her husband, Doug, her children Corey Starke, Tucker, Hannah, Derek, and Bethany, as well as her granddaughters Zoelie, Allister, and Penelope, her parents Chuck and Joyce Newcomb, her brother Robert Newcomb, and sister Laura Main. She had many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends whom she loved dearly. Her life, gifts, and wonderful spirit will be celebrated on April 1st at 1:00 pm at Drake Road Christian Church at 608 E. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO, 80525. Interment will take place in Denver, Colorado near her Grandparents on April 3rd with close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Deb’s non-profit organization, My Sister’s Keeper, Inc., at PO Box 1750, Granby, Colorado, 80446 or Foothills Gateway at 301 Skyway Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80525.
