Her father’s work as a heavy equipment operator on numerous projects throughout the country kept her and her sisters on the move, from California to the Western Slope of Colorado, and all points in between. One of her fondest memories was of when, as a little girl, she would help her father grease the big Caterpillar dozer on the weekends. On October 15th, 1961, she married Walt Schemp, and they were married until his death in March of 1992. Together, they raised two sons, Tom, and Kevin. Diane retired from School District 6 as a school registrar and then started her own business as a restaurateur – Mom’s Kitchen. In 2004, she married Theodore Alcaraz, and they lived in the Phoenix area. While there, she worked as a school registrar for the Maricopa County School District. Ted and Diane returned to Colorado in 2009 to be closer to each of their children. They were married until Ted’s death in December of 2020. Diane will be remembered as a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a true and loyal friend.
She is survived by her two sons, Tom (Janice) of Greeley, and Kevin (Brenda) of Gallup, NM., two sisters, Carol Buhr and Kathy White (Kitty), both of Greeley, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt, and her second husband, Theodore, as well as her parents and a sister, Barbara Collins of Henderson, NV.
Services will be conducted at Kersey Community Church on Saturday December 4th, 2021 at 10:00 am with internment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held following the burial service at the Kersey Community Church Memorial Building.
