On March 24, 1969 my mother, Edna Faith Lee, brought me in to the world. On July 31st, 2009, I had the privilege f holding her hand and telling her how much I loved her when she left the world.
In those 40 years, there is a wealth of storiesâ??¦some sad, some drama and some happy, regardless, I cherish every one of those stores, those memoriesâ??¦those pieces of me. 
As with any mother and daughter, we had our yelling matches, hours of not speaking to each other and moments of complete loss of grace on both of our partsâ??¦but those times gave way as we grew up, grew older and grew closer. It honestly didnâ???Tt occur to me that my mother had a life before me or outside of meâ??¦since I had a experienced a lifetime of a motherâ???Ts love, protection, nurturing and YESâ??¦sometimes well deserved wrath. She saved me from evils that most people could never even imagine, much less face full on. She held my hand through some of the most beautiful moments of my life like the birth of my first child and was my biggest cheerleader at every spelling beee, singing competition and career accomplishment. She left her own career aspirations behind to take care of my children and help me raise them while I worked to get ahead in the world and provide a good life for themâ??¦a debt I will NEVER be able to repay. My only hope is that she is happy and proud in the fact that she was a major part of the most important thing I ever did in my life and helped to shape them in to the wonderful people they are today and will continue to be in the future. 
While ovarian cancer was the worst thing that ever happened to us, it is also the thing that allowed me to spend countless hours with my mother, caring for her, talking to her and truly cherishing her. I can only hope that I have showed her even the smallest fraction of the love, support and comfort that she has showed me over a lifetime.
Thank you, mama for teaching me to always look my best whether I am sick or even going to leave the houseâ??¦for teaching me that size and stature have nothing to do with how much strength someone can have and for showing me that nor matter whatâ??¦you loved me. 
Most of all, I want to thank you, dear mama, for capturing the heart of my one and only true father, and giving me the wonderful, sweet dad that all little girls deserve but biology didnâ???Tt give me.
Dad, thank you so much for choosing us.
Mama, I hope you are shooting through the sky like superman in your new invincible stateâ??¦free of your poor diseased little earthly body. I have the worldâ???Ts strongest angel watching over me. I love you.
