Ed was one of the early Colorado ""giants"" in cancer research along with Ted Puck and a few others. As others have noted, he was one of the kindest and most engaging of the senior faculties in his mentoring of newcomers and trainees. His equanimity in facing his own struggle with cancer was inspiring to me as his physician and he will be deeply missed as a colleague and patient.

Dr. Gillette was my teacher and mentor for my radiation oncology residency in 1999-2001. He travelled to Los Angeles to oversee my program with his friend, Dr. Rod Withers.  I am truly blessed to have been trained by two extraordinary individuals and appreciate the opportunities he afforded me. I continue to benefit from Dr. Gillette's training every day. I am sorry to have missed the service on Nov 28th, but a snow storm kept me away. My condolences to Sharon and to Dr. Gillette's extended family. What a wonderful man...he will be dearly missed.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Ed'd death.  I felt privileged to work with him on the faculty from 1965 until 1973.  He was a fine gentleman, an excellent scientist and teacher, and a wonderful colleague.  Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss.

Just wanted to let you know that my prayers are with you.

I would like to offer my condolences to the Gillette family.  As a student in the Dept. of Radiological Sciences, I briefly new Dr. Gillette as the head of the department.  He always had a kind word for everyone and made me feel welcome to CSU.  I was very sorry to hear of his passing.

Brad and I offer our condolences to Sharon and family.  Ed was one to get things done and will be remembered for his accomplishments.

I just wanted to tell the family of my sincere appreciation for the time I spent with Ed, as both a student and colleague.  He always made one feel comfortable by his gentle approach, his sincerity, and his willingness to give you his time.  He will be missed.

Ed was such a great mentor and longtime friend.  He brought me onto the Board of our Rotary club, trusted me and taught me about being a caring professional. Dr. Ed Gillette epitomized the scholarly veterinarian whose gentle manner and notable technical skills and management style fostered trust and success at leadership for many of his colleagues, including me. An institution, a pioneer, a tireless researcher, big hearted teacher but most of all, a good guy.  I looked forward to every formal meeting or every chance encounter so I could get a healthy dose of Ed.  CSU lost a warrior and a true friend.  He will be missed but his legacy lives on.

Ed was my professor in radiation biology the summer of l963 at the University of Wyoming; he brought our class down to Fort Collins to see the beagle colony......and in l967 I came back to Fort Collins again as a graduate student in radiology.  He was doing such interesting research way back then!

Working with Dr. Gillette the last several years while he served as the Assistant Director of the CSU Animal Cancer Center has been a real honor.  His wit during times when others were a bit testy was a true gift!  He was an example to us all!  Thank you Dr. Gillette for making the CSU Animal Cancer Center a great place to make a difference!  You will remain in my heart forever.

I remember taking care of Dr. Gillette's rats in the old BRB building when I first started working at CSU, 35 years ago. Even way back then he was doing research on cancer. Because of his efforts both people and animals have benifited. He will be greatly missed.
