Harold grew up in Greeley, where he attended schools. After his education, he worked for A.J. Gold, Gold’s Auto Parts, Greeley for ten years. He later went to work at Parr Auto Parts for five years. He then worked for Chapman Bros Inc. in Denver for several years.
In February 1944, he married Lillian Downing in Greeley. They later divorced. On August 22, 1969, he married Flora Mae Robinson in Greeley. She died on March 18, 2000. He later spent his years with a companion, Jeanette Hill. She died in July 2017.
Harold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Harold had a lifelong love of horses, especially “Smoky” and “Short Stuff”. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains, where he would ride horses, hunt and camp. He would play his harmonica around the campfire and in the evenings at home. Harold was an avid reader, especially books by Louis L’Amour.
Above all was Harold’s love for his family and the time they spent together.
Harold is survived by daughter, Kathy Hinojosa Baber (Doug Wamsley) of Greeley; stepdaughters, Zella Brink of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado and Loretta Green (Tom) of Fruita, Colorado; step-sons, Daniel Hill and Andrew Hill both of Englewood, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Richard Baber, daughter, Laura Leiter, sons-in-law, Rudy Hinojoa and Terry Leiter; three brothers and two sisters.
A Celebration of Harold’s Life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley. Interment will be 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
