Harvey, ‘Ol Harv’ as his friends called him, was born in Bessie, OK, August 4, 1927. Harvey never forgot his humble beginnings. In the mid 1930’s the Intemann family left their farm to find a new life in Oklahoma City. It was there Harvey graduated from Northeast High School (‘43), a year early, valedictorian, and class president. After high school he went to work for Sears and Roebuck Co. cutting linoleum tile until drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Alaska with the Signal Corp during World War 2.
Upon discharge, Harvey went on to the University of Oklahoma simultaneously, working part time for Sears. After graduating with his business degree (‘51 ), Sears offered him full-time employment in their management program. He worked through the various departments of the Oklahoma City store. A most beautiful young lady caught his eye. He pursued the reluctant lass. He wooed her, wowed her, won her heart, and then wed her June 19, 1950. Naomi Pearl Davis took the Intemann name and together they created a partnership based on faith in Jesus Christ that would alter the course of so many lives, including their own. Harv and Naomi had four children: Joe, Sue, Peg and Mary Beth. Harvey and Naomi’s lives were characterized by joy, laughter, love and song. Harvey taught his children songs on their long vacation drives which blossomed into sing-alongs at family reunions. Even after Naomi left us, Harvey continued with his generous and uplifting spirit that was there from the beginning and permeated his whole life on earth. A smile, a word, and an expression of encouragement he always gave freely.
Harvey went on to work 40 years for Sears. He was promoted to Manager in Albuquerque, NM then to Council Bluffs, IA. During these years he volunteered for his church, United Way and Rotary Club. Harvey retired in 1985 from the Bellvue, NE store. Concluding the Sears adventure, the partnership moved onto a life of volunteer and service. The next 10 years were spent with the Laborers for Christ, an organization that used retirees to build Lutheran churches all over the country. Harvey described this as “the best ‘work’ of his life.” In Greeley, his church sent him to the Pregnancy Resource Center to maintain their facilities, RSVP in their shop program, C.A.R.E facility in Evans, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, the Woman’s Place, Octoberfest, and many “honey-do” jobs for nice people who didn’t have anyone to help them. Harvey enjoyed bridge and exercising at the Greeley Senior Center.
Harvey moved to Windsor, CO for his last earthly adventure. Columbine Commons was home filled with joy, laughter and bridge. Harvey appreciated all the nurturing love and care they lavished on him.
Harvey prayed for his life to be a testament to the great love the Lord had for Him and for all.
He is survived by son, Joe Intemann of Denver, daughter, Sue Intemann of Greeley, daughter, Mary Intemann of Aurora, grandson, Jason Hutt (Paige), great-granddaughter, Payson Hutt, and sisters Lillian Larwig and Shirley Intemann as well as many other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi P. Intemann, a brother, Paul Intemann, and daughter Peggy Intemann.
