

Helen M. Hamman passed away on March 24, 2016. She was born December 28, 1928 to William and Helen Malone at home in Denver CO. She grew up in Trinidad, CO. graduating from Holy Trinity H.S. Helen attended Mt. St Joseph’s College in Cincinnati, OH as well as Colorado Women’s College in Denver. She married Paul P. Knaus on Sept. 20, 1952. They moved to the wilds of northern Idaho while he pursued a career with the Forrest Service. They had 5 boys during this time until Paul’s death in February of 1961. Helen moved her family back to Colorado to finish her degree at Colorado State Teachers College (UNC). She moved her family to Ft. Collins in 1962. She married Louis F. Hamman on June 5, 1965; He brought 3 daughters of his own to the marriage and a large family was formed. Lou and Helen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015. They lived all of their married life in Ft. Collins, but split time between a condo in Ft. Collins and a cabin in Lyons, CO for many years. It became a rite of passage for grand children to spend summer weekends with them at the cabin without interference from parents. Helen loved reading, dancing, needlework, quilting and travel. For many years, Helen and Lou spent most Friday nights dancing at the Safari Club to live music from Bob Swearer’s band. They traveled the country and made trips to Spain and Ireland; cruised the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii. Preceding her in death were her husband Paul, sister Patricia and son Christopher. She is survived by her husband, Louis; brother, William Malone; seven children: Sharon Hamman (Terry), Stephen Knaus (Carol), Janet Gablehouse (Darrel), Timothy Knaus (Johnette), Deborah Scates (James), Gregory Knaus (Anne), and Theodore Knaus; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Allnutt Funeral Chapel at 650 West Drake in Fort Collins on Sunday, 4/3/2016 from 2:00-4:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 127 N Howes in Ft. Collins followed by interment at Grandview Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice of Larimer County, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service. Family would like to thank the staff at Pathways Hospice and Morningstar Assisted Living for their special care given to Helen.
