Irene was born and raised in Minnesota, graduating HS from Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was attending university on a scholarship for physics when the government pulled her out for an experimental (Rosie) program. While she was in California as a jet mechanic, she met a fighter pilot, Kenneth Meyers, whom she married in Raton, NM in 1943. They lived in Alaska, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Bermuda and Thailand.
Irene is proceeded in death by her siblings and parents, son Matthew, grandchildren, and Kenneth. Surviving are daughters Peggy Meyers and Kay Gilbreath, and a very extended family on 3 sides.
Irene was an accomplished painter and gardener. She supported many wildlife campaigns and Native American charities.
A memorial service will be announced in June.
