

Jake Hergenreder passed away May 16, 2023, at Life Care Center in Greeley, Colorado, at the age of 96. Jake was born on January 19, 1927, in Nebraska and moved to Colorado as an infant with his family. He grew up in Kersey, working on the family farm, and played basketball for College High. On January 23, 1949, he married Helen Baldwin of Greeley, and they had a son, Rick, and daughter, Linda.
Jake and his family moved to Denver where they lived for 30 years and he drove a truck for Safeway. After retiring, he and Helen returned to Greeley. For many years, he drove concert-goers on a bus for the Greeley Stampede and K99 radio, and was a Wrangler for the Greeley Stampede. Jake and Helen were avid Bronco fans who held season tickets for many years, attending two Super Bowls. Jake was a member of the Lakewood Elks Club, ascending through the officer ranks to eventually become the Exalted Ruler in the early 1970s. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing as well as hunting for elk and deer. Jake and Helen spent many winters in Arizona.
Jake is survived by his wife of 74 years, Helen, of Greeley; son Rick (Gayle) of Arvada, Colorado; daughter Linda Wilson of Windsor, Colorado; granddaughter Kristen White (Brandon) of Brighton, Colorado, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Katharina, sister Bertha Weimer, brothers Herman and Carl, and son-in-law Keith Wilson.
