

He was born December 29, 1930 to John and Loula (Briscoe) McCarthy in Laramie, Wyoming. Doyle was raised in Laramie until his family moved to east of Denver onto a farm east of Denver. When he was 8 years old, he endured the devastating loss of his mother and was mostly raised by his grandparents and his Uncle Hugh on a farm southwest of LaSalle. Doyle attended and graduated from College High School. He attended Colorado State University during his three years of college. Throughout Doyle's life, he farmed near LaSalle then found a job with Monfort Packing where he worked for several years. He then founded his own cement company "Doyle McCarthy General Contractor,"with George Warner.
Doyle found the love of his life, Betty Jean Rohn and they married on December 30, 1953, one day after his 23rd birthday. Together they raised 5 children. Shortly after marrying Betty, Doyle was drafted into the military in 1954 and served with the United States Army until 1956 as a Morse Interceptor and High Speed Radio Operator. Doyle was also involved in the Army's intelligence branch, Army Security Agency. After many years of loving each other, Betty sadly passed away in 2011.
Doyle found joy in many things. He loved to play cards and collect toys, especially toy tractors. He liked going to Black Hawk and always enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends. Doyle and his friends would meet together at Farmers Inn on Thursdays for lunch. Doyle loved building things and made antique looking buildings. He enjoyed driving his backhoe throughout town, and most importantly, he loved Fireball candy. Doyle always had a container of them to hand out to people.
Doyle was a kind and friendly person and always made time to help his neighbors. He will be missed by many people.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Randy) Gaskill; sons, James (Jodi) McCarthy and Tom (Jill) McCarthy; sister, Emma Lou (Carl) Closs; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Robin Rice) McCarthy, Heather McCarthy, Raelene (John) Lundin, and Kourtney McCarthy (fiancé, Brad Hartman); and two great-grandchildren, Madison Lundin and Claire Lundin.
Doyle is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, John and Loula; grandparents, John and Margaret (Shovlin) McCarthy (lovingly known as "Ma" and "Pa"); daughter, Sharon Sterling; son, Mick McCarthy; brother, Hugh Edward McCarthy; and his uncle, Hugh Edward McCarthy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 27, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 915 12th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80631. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. that day at Linn Grove Cemetery, 1700 Cedar Avenue, Greeley, Colorado 80631.
