Katheryn Elizabeth (Kurtz) Eckhardt passed away at Bonell Hospice of Greeley on August 31, 2019, at the age of 102.
Katheryn was born February 11, 1917 to William and Eva Katherine (Rutz) Kurtz in Windsor, Co., where she attended Windsor schools, and was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She married Charlie Eckhardt (1909-1988) on March 28, 1936. The couple soon settled in the Ault area, where they farmed together for 47 years and raised their three children, Charles Lee, Larry James, and Patricia Ann. They resided on the family farm until Charlie’s passing in 1988, enjoying 52 years of marriage. Following his death, Katheryn lived in Greeley for several years with her daughter Patricia, then in Ault again, and finally spent her last few years at Bonell.
During her long life, Katheryn enjoyed cooking, sewing, cross-stitching quilts, gardening, watching the Broncos, and spending time with her family. She was a strong lady, who took great pride in living independently for most of her years. Her family will forever miss her delicious homemade noodles and butterballs, sour pickles, and German chocolate cakes.
She is survived by her son, Charles (Cecilia); 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; son, Larry; daughter, Patricia; grandson, Michael; as well as her parents and siblings.
