Leo Felix Romero, 91, of La Salle, passed away October 8, 2019.

Leo was born in Peckham, Colorado on July 18, 1928 to Joe G. and Mary J. Romero. He married Gregoria Lucero on July 8, 1951 in La Salle, Colorado. Leo served as Army PFC in the Korean War from January 12, 1951 through January 11, 1953. He trained in San Antonio, Texas and was stationed in Blackstone, Virginia, until his Honorable Discharge.

Leo was a dedicated self-employed Farmer-Rancher in the La Salle area and also manager of the La Salle Potato Dock for several years. He owned Romero Trucking Company, hauling silage for Monfort Feedlots, and sugar beets for Great Western Sugar Company for many years.

Leo was also a member of Resurrection Fellowship in Loveland, Colorado. He served on the boards of United Bank of La Salle and Wells Fargo Bank. He was also a Valley RE-1 school board member and served as President of the school board from 1971 to 1982. Leo valued community service and also served in several church leadership roles.

Leo enjoyed playing golf for many years and loved card games with the family on Sunday afternoons. He played hours of ping pong and horseshoes with his brothers and neighbors, which provided many times of camaraderie, laughter, and enjoyment for all involved.

Leo is survived by his children: Kathleen (Carl) Horning of La Salle, Michael Romero of La Salle, Leonore (Duane) Walter of Greeley, and Annette (Ruben) Martinez of Bloomington, Illinois. He is also survived by his siblings; Jane (Stanley) Bedan, Clyde (Bertha) Romero of La Salle and Loyde Harold Romero of Lexington, Massachusetts, as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, his parents, siblings Joe A. Romero, Gilbert Romero, Dorothy Wood, and Janet Miller.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers responsible for dad’s comfort in his final days, including Right at Home, Garden Square, Windsong and Pathways Hospice. We know he felt loved and cared for by each and every one.

To: Kathleen, Michael, Leonore and Annette and your families: My sincere condolences in the loss of your dear father. He was a very sincere, hard working man. My remembrances are of his dedication and unlimited interest in all of the students of our school district in the more than ten years he served as president of the school board. I will remember his soft but untiring voice as he helped guide the patrons of LaSalle, Gilcrest and Platteville into becoming one united school district after consolidation in the years following1964-65. My best to the four of you and may you remember the good times as I do in my 35 years in RE-1.
With respect and love, Ms. Judith Pearson

I served on United Bank of LaSalle's board with Leo. He was as fine a man as I have ever known. My life is richer having known him.
God Bless.
