It is with great sadness that the family of Guadalupe Mendoza announces her passing on December 6, 2017. Lupe was 95 and will be lovingly remembered by her children Josephine (Sanchez) and Andrew, her brother Marion Carranza, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and staff from Fairacres Manor. Lupe was preceded in death by her husband Julio, parents Alberto and Catalina Carranza, daughter Diana (Romero), and 8 siblings.
Lupe was born on July 10, 1922 in Galeton, CO. Early on Lupe demonstrated dedication to her family and that zeal lasted throughout her life. After an injury harvesting sugar beets she began learning domestic arts from her mom. Lupe became an accomplished seamstress and shared her style and design throughout Colorado. Lupe had several jobs, immense talent in encouraging and supporting all she interacted with, and enjoyed bargain shopping at thrift stores.
Lupe’s love was defined by her devotion to her family, community, and the Catholic Church. Lupe and Julio would frequently travel to see family in other states and in Mexico. She had great joy in visiting family near and far and felt blessed to see Pope John Paul II in person. Lupe is one of the original founders of Our Lady of Peace Church. She advocated for community centers, shelters, schools, and political philosophies as well. Her commitment to equality for her community can be seen throughout Colorado. Lupe’s legacy is one of love. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
