

Mark spent his early years in Iowa before moving with his family to Greeley during his senior year of high school. In January 1971, he was drafted into the United States Army. That same year, on June 24, 1971, he married the love of his life, Diane Blum. Shortly after their marriage, Mark was stationed in Germany, where the couple spent the next year together. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 30, 1973.
Following his military service, Mark and Diane returned to Greeley, where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Stacey. Mark earned his associate degree in welding from Aims Community College and went on to build a long and dedicated career. He worked at Flatiron and U.S. Welding before spending many years as a mechanic at Kodak, where he remained until his retirement.
Mark was known for his hardworking nature, and his love of hands-on pursuits which led him to become a jack of all trades and self-taught engineer. He had a love for life, filling it with fishing trips around Colorado, bringing Trout back to his family for dinners. Restoring old cars, while always fixing and maintaining his daughters' cars. He was known around Northern Colorado as the "pool shark," playing in competitive pool leagues. In his younger years, he had a wild spirit for racing motorcycles.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Bengtson; his daughters, Jennifer Bengtson (William Hook) and Stacey Bengtson; and his sister, Melissa Pennock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Irene Bengtson; his brother, Greg Bengtson; and his sister, Martha Fawver.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Active Adult Center of Greeley, 1010 6th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
