

Max O. Witt, 99, of Greeley, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. He was born on August 2, 1917 on a farm near Chester, Montana to Theodore and Edith (Oakley) Witt.
Max moved to Lincoln, Nebraska as a child. After his high school graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska, Agriculture College for a year. He moved to Denver, where he worked various jobs, including working for his cousins at their business, “The Purity Creamery” in the various locations in the Denver area.
On October 24, 1940, he married Martha Louise Wiedmer in Denver.
Max served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was stationed at several bases in Texas, where he worked on many heavy aircraft, including B-52s, doing maintenance and inspection work. After his discharge, he returned to Colorado.
In 1951, Max and his family moved to Lincoln, where they lived until 1958.
Max was a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church and also attended West Greeley Baptist Church most recently.
His passions included serving the Lord and in turn helping people, flying his airplane, fishing and traveling. He had a great love for his family. Max enjoyed tinkering and even built his own helicopter, which he flew.
Max is survived by daughter, Janice (Ed) Binkley of Greeley; son, Larry Witt of Delta, Colorado; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, Karl and Byron Witt.
A Celebration of Max’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Private interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
