
Norbert Leslie Simmons, 94, of Greeley, died Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. He was born November 29, 1925 in Bushong, Kansas to Glen David and Verda Ethel (Duncan) Simmons.
Norbert was reared and educated in Bushong and Emporia, Kansas, graduating from Bushong High School. On May 31, 1945 he entered the U.S. Army, serving after WWII. Norbert served in Europe as a member of the Army of Occupation. He was honorably discharged on November 4, 1946 and returned to Kansas.
In April 1951, Norbert married Mildred Duncan in Greeley. She died on February 1, 2017.
Norbert was a longtime member of the Greeley Wesleyan Church, which his father-in-law, George Duncan, started.
For most of Norbert’s farming career he farmed in Greeley County, Kansas. He worked for Bargeldt Construction in Greeley. He also worked delivering auto parts for two years.
Norbert enjoyed vegetable gardening and time with his family. He loved ice cream, sour dough pancakes and Spanish peanuts. In his spare time Norbert was a woodworker. He was also a perfectionist.
Norbert is survived by his daughter, Bethel Price (Curtis) of Fort Collins; two grandchildren, Aaron Caldwell (Heather) and Dain Caldwell (Lindsay) both of Arvada; four step-sisters, Betty Jones of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, Jan Speece of Emporia, Ruby Speece of Emporia and Pat Purcell of Primm, Nevada; step-brother, John Speece of Emporia, Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, brothers, Frank and Kenneth Simmons and step-brother, Larry Speece.
Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 followed by Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
