Pauline was born on October 1, 1943 to Elias and Orcilia (Olivas) Trujillo in Greeley, CO. Pauline attended schools in Greeley and worked as a CNA in Healthcare for various organizations before retiring from Banner - NCMC in 2005.
She married the love of her life, Jose Torres, on January 24, 1973 and together raised their family for 37 years before he passed in 2010. Pauline is remembered lovingly for her crafts and her baking. She made beautiful dolls, blankets, tablecloths, clothes...her creativity was endless and she had a talent for seeing a project once and then being able to recreate it with her own style. She loved to welcome new babies with a handmade baby sweater and booties that she would crochet and she always had a few projects “in progress” in every corner of her home.
Every Christmas she would spend weeks baking cookies, making homemade candy, and delivering trays of goodies to loved ones. Her family will always remember her apple bars, her fudge, homemade tortillas, and her famous 'frog eye salad'. She was an exceptional gardener and always had a house full of plants. Our dad would help her plant a garden every spring and she loved a tomato picked fresh off of the vine; She spent each fall canning peaches, making salsa, jams, and jellies. She loved to dance, travel, and tease our dad about the Broncos (especially when they were losing). And her family was her true pride and joy. She will always be remembered for the love she poured into her grandchildren - baking with them, playing video games with them, watching them play sports…just being with them was her favorite way to spend her time.
Pauline was known for her candor and her quick wit as much as she was for her talents and her love. Our mother was never one to hold her tongue or mince words and always said exactly what was on her mind. Her feisty spirit lives on in the strong family she raised and she is remembered lovingly for all that she taught each of her children and grandchildren. She spent her last few years in the care of Life Care Center of Greeley and our family is so very grateful for the love and compassion they shared with our mom.
She is survived by her daughter, Deirdre (Roger) Pearson of Greeley, sons Tony Hernandez of Hatlom City, TX and Elias Hernandez of Gilbert, AZ; sister, Virginia (Tony) DeLaCruz of Greeley and brother Bill Trujillo of Milton Freewater, OR; grandchildren, TJ, Audrey, Ivan, Isaac, Angela, Olivia, James, Joseph, Chantelle, Jazmin, Nicole, Anthony, Michelle, Chaze, Brandon, and Blue; great-granddaughters, Bella, Ophelia, Adeline, and Skye; several nieces, nephews, honorary grandchildren, and cherished lifelong friends.
Pauline is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Torres; her daughter, Adella Hernandez; her parents, Elias and Orcilia Trujillo, and her sisters Angelina Mendoza, Marcella Trujillo, and Vicky Trujillo.
A celebration of Pauline's life will be held Friday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Kimberly's Event Center in Greeley.
