

Reuben “Swede” Ehrlich was Born June 1, 1929 to German immigrants, Katarina (Miller) and Jacob Ehrlich. He was born and raised on a farm in Windsor, and then the family relocated to Greeley. Reuben was one of nine children.
As a young boy, Reuben was very inquisitive about mechanics and the way things work, especially machines. During his teens, he acquired the nickname Swede, his moniker for life.
Swede graduated from Greeley High School and in 1946 opened ""Swede's Repair Shop"" in LaSalle. There he worked on automobiles and had a special interest in race cars. He quickly gained a reputation for his skills building and driving various vehicles for competition, ranging from stock cars to dragsters. In 1959, he set a Colorado record for being the first person to exceed 150 mph in a quarter mile.
Reuben married Margaret Beth Wens in 1952. They had three children. He purchased his first car dealership during his mid-20s, and Ehrlich Motors would become his greatest legacy.
Swede was very active in the community with his business ventures and service on various boards. His personal interests included traveling, racing cars, skiing, and dancing the polka.
Swede married Beverly Coan in 1999. She has been by his side, especially during his last few years while his health deteriorated.
Swede is survived by his two brothers, Clarence (Joan) and Paul; his wife, Bev; his three children Stan Ehrlich, Carol (Andy) Chaffee, and Scott (Holly) Ehrlich, and eight grandchildren; Amber, Tyler, Bryce, Jacob, Emerson James, Cameron, Drew, and Chandler. Swede also has many nephews and nieces and extended family.
His parents and 6 siblings preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-6:00 P.M. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Greeley Country Club. A private inurnment will be held at Linn Grove Cemetery.
